Manchester United dropped points from a winning position for a second time in their last three games as they have not won since the opening day of the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side saw themselves concede an equaliser just before the hour at St Mary’s on Saturday lunchtime.
United had taken the lead after only 10 minutes when Daniel James scored his third of the season with a fine effort into the top corner.
However, the Red Devils failed to capitalise on their lead and were pegged back when they failed to properly clear a corner. Jannik Vestergaard was given a free header inside the six yard box to equalise for Southampton.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were unconvincing in their opening two defeats to start the season but bounced back last weekend with a win at 10 man Brighton & Hove Albion. They showed their fight in the final 20 minutes of this game when they were reduced to 10 men. Young left-back Kevin Danso was naive in picking up his second yellow card of the game.
However, Manchester United failed to capitalise on Southampton’s dismissal though, leaving them on five points after four games, one more than the Saints.
