Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal: Reds end Gunners’ winning start

Liverpool came out on top of the battle between the two teams with a 100% start with a comfortable 3-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday evening.

In what was only their third league game of the season, both Liverpool and the Gunners headed into the weekend as the only sides with a 100% winning record.

The hosts never looked like dropping points for the first time this season on Saturday as they took the game to Arsenal from the start. Although it wasn’t until the 40th minute when they eventually took the lead, victory never appeared to be in doubt.

Joel Matip headed home a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner five minutes before half-time as Arsenal defenders simply failed to pick up the imposing 6’5″ centre-back in the penalty area.

The game was over before the hour, first when David Luiz tugged at Mohamed Salah’s shirt inside the penalty area to gift the Egyptian a penalty that he duly converted. Then Salah went on a mazy run to make it 3-0.

Liverpool sat back for the final half hour and Arsenal eventually got a consolation goal. Lucas Torreira provided it five minutes for time.
