Defending Premier League champions Manchester City dropped points in only the second game of their title defence as Pep Guardiola’s side were held 2-2 at home by Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
City dominated the game and took the lead on 20 minutes through Raheem Sterling, fresh off his hat-trick in their season opener at West Ham United last weekend.
The visitors had barely touched the ball in Manchester City’s half before Erik Lamela stunned the home crowd with a low, 25-yard effort into the bottom corner of Ederson’s goal to equalise only three minutes before falling behind.
Sergio Aguero scored for the 97th time at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League 10 minutes before half-time to restore City’s lead.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were not done as Lucas Moura headed in an equaliser 10 minutes after the break.
Manchester City thought they’d won it late on as Gabriel Jesus scrambled home a corner. However, VAR intervened to rule out the goal as the initial cross had come off the arm of teammate Aymeric Laporte.
