Liverpool hit Norwich City for four in the opening game of the 2019-20 Premier League season at Anfield on Friday night.
Grant Hanley’s own goal after only seven minutes spelled disaster for last season’s EFL Championship winners on their trip to the Champions League holders.
The Reds made their pressure count when Mohamed Salah doubled their lead after only 19 minutes, before Virgil van Dijk headed home from a corner only nine minutes later.
There was still time for Divock Origi to get on the scoresheet before half-time as the Belgian forward made it 4-0 on 42 minutes. Origi was starting in place of Sadio Mane, who was a late introduction, having represented Senegal in the African Cup of Nations over the summer.
Credit to the Canaries as they took the game to Jurgen Klopp’s side and they got a consolation midway through the second half with a fine finish from Teemu Pukki. The Finnish striker was making his Premier League debut after top scoring in the second tier last season.
Norwich City look more than capable of avoiding relegation this season and should fancy their chances at home to Norwich City next weekend.
